A Statistical Approach for Calibrating a Microsimulation Model for Freeways

چکیده
In this paper the calibration of a traffic microsimulation model based on speed-density relationships is presented. Hypothesis test was applied in the calibration process to measure the closeness between empirical data and simulation outputs and determine whether the difference between (observed and simulated) speeddensity relationships was statistically significant. Statistical regressions between the variables of traffic flow were developed by using traffic data observed at the A22 Brenner Freeway, Italy. Similar relationships were obtained for a test freeway segment in uncongested conditions of traffic flow by using the Aimsun microscopic simulator; thus on field conditions were reproduced varying some selected parameters until a good match between measurement and simulation was achieved. Key-Words: freeway, traffic, microsimulation, speed-density relationship, calibration, Aimsun

Bayesian Calibration of Microsimulation Models.
Microsimulation models that describe disease processes synthesize information from multiple sources and can be used to estimate the effects of screening and treatment on cancer incidence and mortality at a population level. These models are characterized by simulation of individual event histories for an idealized population of interest. Microsimulation models are complex and invariably include...
متن کاملExploring Microsimulation methodologies for the estimation of household attributes
Microsimulation is a rapidly expanding area of spatial modelling, which seems to offer great potential for applied policy analysis. However, currently there is considerable debate on the most appropriate methodology for estimating micro-data. Household or individual attribute data can be represented both as lists and/or as tabulations. It has long been argued (Birkin and Clarke, 1995; Clarke, 1...
متن کاملVariable Speed Limit Systems: Safety and Operational Impacts for Freeways Applications
A candidate Variable Speed Limits Sign (VSLS) control algorithm was applied to an urban freeway in Toronto, Canada using microsimulation. The microsimulation model was combined with a categorical crash model to quantify the impacts of VSLS implementation on safety and traffic performance. The VSLS control strategy was developed as a practical algorithm that responded to real-time measures of tr...
متن کاملA Framework for Traffic Planning and Forecasting using Micro-Simulation Calibrations
This paper presents the application of microsimulation for traffic planning and forecasting, and proposes a new framework to model complex traffic conditions by calibrating and adjusting traffic parameters of a microsimulation model. By using an open source micro-simulator package, TRANSIMS, in this study, animated and numerical results were produced and analysed. The framework of traffic model...
متن کاملMethodological Issues in Spatial Microsimulation Modelling for Small Area Estimation
In this paper, some vital methodological issues of spatial microsimulation modelling for small area estimation have been addressed, with a particular emphasis given to the reweighting techniques. Most of the review articles in small area estimation have highlighted methodologies based on various statistical models and theories. However, spatial microsimulation modelling is emerging as a very us...
